Barrels to Beethoven is dedicated to providing opportunities for the community to learn about the steelpan and be exposed to its benefits. We seek opportunities to engage, entertain, and educate the community, especially youth, about the steelpan and will work with schools and organizations to develop programs that work best of your organization.

Support

Barrels to Beethoven offers support to any organization looking to start a steelpan education program. We offer assistance in multiple areas from grant writing to curriculum development and instruction. Our goal is to increase the number of people exposed to this art. To do so, we know we must offer our expertise in all stages of program development and sustainment.

Educational Programming

Music in the Classroom – This program offers a steelpan classroom curriculum developed for instruction during the school day. Sessions can be designed from 6 weeks through the entire school year. Instrument purchase is not required.

Concerts – Our educational concerts are up to one hour shows with our full steel band. These performances teach steelpan history, building and tuning methods, and show the versatility of the steel band. Performances include a segment dedicated to interactive learning.

Workshops & After School – Afterschool and Saturday programs require a 6-week minimum. Students learn music theory, steelpan fundamentals, performance technique and so much more!

Performance Technique Workshop – This workshop is led by a professional steelpan player. This unique program is specifically designed for students already playing the steelpan.

Pan Builders Workshop – This workshop is an in-depth course on building and tuning a steelpan.

Lectures – Leigh Solomon Pugliano discusses her love of the steelpan, Caribbean ancestry, historical context of the instrument and afro-Caribbean people, and the impact of pan. Lectures include a performance and audience interaction.

Lessons – Steelpan lessons are available either for the individual or in a group setting. Lessons can be scheduled for most days of the week and take place at our location.

Band Together! Team Building Workshops

Team building is one of the most important investments you can make in your people and organization. The most successful team-building activities are the ones that don’t feel like you’re still at work. Choosing an activity that is unique and somewhat challenging can bring your team together in an awesome and truly meaningful way. Our program combines our corporate training expertise with music education experience, and centers diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Barrels to Beethoven’s Band Together workshops invites teams to learn to play the steelpan…together. Groups learn steelpan technique in a band setting and are able to perform 3 or more songs as a band by the end of the session.
