Steelpan Education

Barrels to Beethoven is dedicated to steelpan education. We seek opportunities to engage, entertain and educate the community, especially youth, about the steelpan; hopefully inspiring a new generation of steelpan builders, tuners and players.

Support

Barrels to Beethoven offers support to any organization looking to start a steelpan education program. We offer assistance in multiple areas from grant writing to curriculum development and instruction. Our goal is to increase the number of people exposed to this art. To do so, we know we must offer our expertise in all stages of program development and sustainment.

Educational Programming

In additional to steelpan technique, children and youth who participate in our steelpan education programs gain the personal, social, emotional, and educational assets needed to support healthy development, increase well-being, self-esteem, and facilitate a successful transition through childhood, adolescence, and into adulthood.

Lessons

Steelpan lessons are available either for the individual or in a group setting. Instructors can come to your home or lessons can be taken at our locations.

Performance Technique

This interactive workshop-like session is led by a professional steelpan player. This unique program is specifically designed for students already playing the steelpan.

Music in the Classroom

This presentation allows students an up-close experience. Better for smaller groups (approx. 10 – 20 students) the presentation includes a short demonstration with a few instruments, explains the history of the instrument and the building process. Following the presentation, students have the opportunity to try out the steelpan.

Concerts

Our educational concerts are up to one hour shows with our full steel band. These concerts show the versatility of the steel band, performing songs from various genres of music. Performances include segments dedicated to sharing steelpan history and Caribbean culture.
